About Kiawah

Kiawah Island Resorts, the only resort located on the island, is unlike any other resort in the world. With a beach rated the "Second Most Romantic Beach in America" by National Geographic Traveler.

The beach (10 miles of it) is right outside our doors.  The sand is hard-packed and suitable for jogging and bicycling.

Kiawah Island offers 5 championship golf courses and 9 more nearby.  The best courses are right there.

The Network has planned 9 holes at Turtle Point for Friday afternoon and 18 holes Saturday afternoon at Cougar Point.

Kiawah's 20+ miles of paved bike and leisure trails and 10 miles of hard-packed beach make exploration by bicycle both healthful and fun.

Cocktails and small talk followed by a fabulous buffet dinner at 8:00 p.m. featuring home-style South Carolina delicacies served at dusk as the sun sets over the ocean horizon.  Silhouettes of out-rigged shrimp boats bobbing in the ocean offshore against the setting sun.  It doesn't get much better than this.

Spouses' and Significant Others' Special Event -- Plantation Tour

Middleton Place, on the banks of the Ashley River, is a carefully preserved 18th century plantation that has survived revolution, civil war and earthquake. It was the home of Henry Middleton, President of the First Continental Congress, and his son, Arthur, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Today the National Historic Landmark encompasses America's oldest landscaped Gardens, the Middleton Place House, and the Plantation Stableyards.

America's Oldest Landscaped Gardens -- The Gardens reflect the elegant symmetry of 17th-century European design. Rare camellias bloom in the winter and azaleas blaze on the hillside above the Rice Mill Pond in the spring. In summer, kalmia, magnolias, crepe myrtle and roses accent a landscape magnificent throughout the year. Paths lead from the Reflection Pool, past the ancient Middleton Oak and the family tomb to the House.  In 1941, the Garden Club of America awarded Middleton Place the prestigious Bulkley Medal and proclaimed Middleton Place to be "the most interesting and important Garden in America." Since then, the plantings have matured and the Gardens are even more beautiful than ever before.  Garden Map

The Middleton Place House
-- Built in 1755 as a gentlemen's guest wing, the House became the family residence after the plantation was burned during the Civil War. Guided tours interpret the Middleton's vital role in American history. Collections include portraits by Benjamin West and Thomas Sully, Charleston rice beds, fine silver and rare first editions by Catesby and Audobon.

The Plantation Stableyards -- The blacksmith, potter, carpenter, and weaver recreate the activities of a self-sustaining Low Country plantation.  Agricultural displays, together with horses and mules, hogs and milking cows, sheep, goats and guinea hens, bring to life the rice and cotton eras.

Lunch will be served, return to Kiawah Island by 3:00 p.m.

Defense Initiatives:  Victory Through Changes in Court Rules and Law

The mission of the Lawyers for Civil Justice is to restore and maintain balance in the civil justice system, and goals include class action reform, discovery process reform, reasonable tort reform and the protection of the privacy of litigants.

To further these ends, the organization is engaged in a wide range of legislative and judicial rulemaking activities. Recently, LCJ members testified in a series of public hearings sponsored by the Federal Judicial Conference; they presented testimony in support of the discovery reform and expert evidence reform proposals.  Over the past three years, the group has rallied support for fundamental changes in procedural rules governing litigation and successfully opposed federal legislative efforts by the plaintiffs' bar to restrict judges from issuing protective orders. LCJ has been active in supporting efforts to reform the Class Action Jurisdictional provisions designed to liberalize class action cases qualified for removal to federal courts.

Announcements and Recreation

Golf at Turtle Point
9 holes (or as many as you can play before dark)

Tennis

The combination of length and accuracy demanded by this Jack Nicklaus design has led to its selection for several important championships including the Carolinas' Amateur, the Carolinas' PGA, the South Carolina Amateur and the 1990 PGA Cup Matches, the club professionals version of the Ryder Cup. Opened in 1981, Turtle Point is a low-profile design with fairways and green settings blended into the existing landscape. Nowhere is this more evident than along a spectacular three-hole stretch woven through rolling sand dunes directly along the Atlantic Ocean.

Scorecard      Location of Course on Kiawah

Year after year, the tennis programs at Kiawah Island Resort, under the direction of Hall of Fame Tennis Pro Roy Barth, receive many of the sport's highest accolades - such as ranking among Tennis Magazine's "Ten Greatest U.S. Tennis Resorts", and a "Best of America" from Racquet.

As a guest of the Resort, you are entitled to one hour of complimentary court time per day at either of our two tennis complexes. In addition to clay and hard courts, both facilities have fully stocked pro shops and offer stringing, rental, and matchmaking services.

Relax on your own

The recreation programs at Kiawah Island Resort are quite simply unsurpassed. For those who wish to immerse themselves in water, we have the pools and ocean, of course. Three pool complexes are available to Resort guests only, and on our beaches, services include umbrellas, chairs, boats and boogie boards. We also now offer the opportunity for Kiawah Island Resort guests to make advance reservations for Nature Tours and Recreational Services.

If you wish to immerse yourself in the study or enjoyment of nature, we suggest you begin with a visit to the Nature Room in Night Heron Park to make the acquaintance of some of the inhabitants of the salt marsh - including our knowledgeable Island Naturalists.

After that, why not get out into nature, with Marsh Creek Canoeing, Marsh Kayaking, or Ocean Kayaking.  Scheduled walking tours include the Birds of Kiawah (203 species and counting!), Gators-n-Y’all (needs no explaining!), and the Island Sampler that takes you to the forests, dunes, and marshes of this barrier island. Cyclers can explore Wildlife in the Wetlands, or all 4000 years of Kiawah Island’s known history, from the places where earliest Native Americans held their oyster roasts up through more modern times in our proud Lowcountry history.

For more free form pleasures, why not rent bikes for the whole family? On Kiawah Island we have more than 30 miles of trails for exploring - and areas of wide flat beach where you may race the pelicans. A Fitness Room opens bright and early each day, with the finest Cybex and Trotter Equipment. And, your workout can be followed by a Therapeutic Massage.
